Coorg Robusta

Robusta is the second most popularly consumed variant of Coffee, due to its unique trait of adding Crema and a nuanced flavor, especially to espressos. Coorg grown Robusta beans are a monsoon-fed variant of Coffee, grown under the cool shade of local trees such as rosewood, orange and silver oak. Coorg, being the largest coffee producer in India, is inextricably associated with producing such high-quality Robusta Coffee beans.

As the name suggests this variant of Coffee is “robust” in nature and has a full-bodied strong taste along with a slight peanut aftertaste. Robusta beans have twice the amount of caffeine present in them than Arabica beans, thus they are a go-to Coffee for those who love a strong Coffee flavor. The quality of Robusta Coffee can be easily identified by its ability to not lose its flavor when added to sugar and milk.

Green Cardamom

Green Cardamom widely known as the Queen of Spices, is one of the costliest spices traded around the world. Grown in the evergreen estates of Coorg, the climatic conditions give it a distinct aroma, faint green colour and is relatively smaller when compared to other varieties of Cardamom grown elsewhere. Known by its local name ‘Yelakki’, Green Cardamom produced in Coorg has been awarded with the Geographical Indication Tag – thereby recognizing the quality and promises the distinctiveness of the produce.

Cardamom is a high-priced spice because it is a labour-intensive crop. Cardamom capsules are grown around the leafy stalks of the plant base at the ground level. Capsules are carefully handpicked before they ripen to avoid the split. They are sundried and stored in an airtight container to retain the aroma. Inside the dried capsule, there are seeds, which are used as a spice for flavoring various preparations of food, confectionery, beverages and liquors. Hence, Cardamom invariably finds a place in the spice chest of many kitchens.

Black Pepper

Black Pepper known as King of Spices, is abundantly grown in the beautiful estates of Coorg. This spice is highly celebrated for its pungent woody flavor along with its distinctive sharpness. Coorg Black Pepper are grown on veins, branching around the local trees planted for shade along the side of Coffee plants in the plantation. Hence, Black Pepper cultivation is considered as a secondary crop among the natives.

Peppercorns start as green and ripen to red. Half ripened pepper corns, hanging from veins are hand-picked and sundried. This natural drying process turns the pepper corn into a darker color and a winkled texture. Widely used as a spice around the world, it is hard to imagine cooking without this spice. In addition to adding flavor to foods, Black Pepper acts as a natural antioxidant and offers impressive health benefits.
